Mark Hamill Discusses The Burden Of Keeping 'I Am Your Father' A Secret For Over A Year
December 4, 2017
When Mark Hamill read the script for "The Empire Strikes Back", the writers purposely left out the line "Luke, I am your father" to make sure no one spoiled the plot twist before the movie came out in theaters.
One day Mark was on set and the director asked him to meet privately where he revealed the new line and explained that no one knew about it except him and George Lucas.
They even shot the scene with David Prowse, the man inside the suit of Darth Vader, saying a completely different line. It wasn't until later that James Earl Jones would dub over it with the new line.
Mark explains the burden of keeping this HUGE secret from everyone in his own, funny way.
