High School Football Player With Cerebral Palsy Scores An 80-Yard Touchdown
October 31, 2017
A high school football player with cerebral palsy got the opportunity of a lifetime Friday night when he scored an 80-yard touchdown.
Atlee High School senior Sepp Shirey is a dedicated member of the school's football team. Cerebral palsy limits his ability to walk, and Sepp often uses crutches to help.
But Friday night, coach Matt Gray put Sepp in the game.
Gray alerted the referees that Sepp was taking the field, and they relayed it to the opposing team's coach Stu Brown.
Sepp received the hand-off and players on both teams cheered him on as he ran, with a ball in his hands instead of crutches, 80 yards down the field.
Sepp crashed into the end zone, falling into the arms of a teammate.
"We learned more from him than what anyone thought we gave him," Brown, Varina's coach, told Richmond.com. "The definition of physical and mental toughness is Sepp marching 80 yards.
"It's the toughest 80-yard run I've ever witnessed. I'll tell you that."
