13-Year-Old Blind Girl With Autism Plays Chopin Flawlessly On Public Piano
February 27, 2023
A blind 13-year-old girl with learning disabilities stunned passersby at a train station in Birmingham, UK, as she flawlessly performed Chopin's Nocturne Op.9 No.1 on the piano.
Lucy is blind, has autism and severe learning difficulties.
In a segment about her life, Lucy's mother Candice tells presenter Claudia Winkleman her daughter was diagnosed with cancerous tumors in her eyes shortly after she was born.
She further explains that, as well as having no vision at all, Lucy has a chromosome 16 duplication and is developmentally delayed, meaning she struggles with communication.
When Lucy was very little she was given a tiny keyboard which she took into the hospital with her.
"She played Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star perfectly on it," Candice said, adding she caught the attention of a nurse who initially thought the tune was pre-recorded.
From then on, Lucy began working with Daniel at The Amber Trust, a nonprofit which supports blind musicians.
