Sixth Grade Teacher's Viral Facebook Post Taught Her Students An Important Lesson About Social Media

December 30, 2014

Melissa Bour - a sixth grade teacher in Tulsa, Oklahoma - wanted to teach her students a valuable lesson about social media and why it's important not to post photos and other material that they might regret in the future.

She wrote this letter and shared a picture of it on her own Facebook page:

The letter reads:

"My 12-year-old students think it is ‘no big deal’ that they are posting pictures of themselves in bras or with their middle finger in the air. Please help me out by sharing this image and commenting with where you live to show these young students how quickly their images can get around."

Within hours the post went viral. It quickly reached all 50 states and even made it's way across the world to various countries including Australia, Saudi Arabia, and Germany.

The lesson did not end there.

Bour has since deleted her original post, yet copies are still in circulation.

Just because you delete a social media post does not mean it's erased from the Internet.
