If your cat loves grass but you don’t have a backyard, don’t worry—this couple found a genius solution.

With a kiddie pool and some affordable seeds, they built a DIY grass patch on their patio, and now their cat spends hours lounging, cooling off, and living her best life.

Using a budget-friendly plastic kiddie pool, they created a cozy patch of cat grass where their feline can nap, snack, and stay cool all summer long.

Here's how they did it:

“We bought a cheap plastic kiddy pool, cut drainage holes at the bottom, added a thin layer of soil, spread cat grass (wheat) seeds, watered and waited. Good for napping and snacking.”

The couple chose cat grass, which is usually a blend of wheat, barley, or rye grass, safe for cats to nibble in moderation. Their kitty has fallen in love with the space so much, they now keep the patio door cracked so she can come and go as she pleases.

“Even on the hottest days she likes to just lay and nap in it,” they said. “I think because the soil and grass tends to be slightly damp and keeps her cool.”

Want to Make One Too? Here Are Some Extra Tips:

Keep the soil moist: Water lightly every day unless it rains, but don’t soak the soil. Proper drainage is key to prevent root rot.

Sunlight matters: Cat grass thrives in strong, indirect light. A sunny patio or balcony is ideal.

Trim if needed: To keep it lush, trim the grass occasionally to prevent overgrowth or browning tips.
