'Pure Imagination' From Willy Wonka Will Always Give Me Chills. RIP, Gene Wilder
August 30, 2016
"But Charlie, don't forget what happened to the man who suddenly got everything he always wanted.... He lived happily ever after."
Gene Wilder's performance as Willy Wonka is so enigmatic, possibly dangerous, possibly benign, possibly both, but he managed to embody the mad genius in a perfectly late 19th century way. Nothing says England at that time like men in top-hats having fanciful dreams inside dreary factory walls.
RIP Gene. You helped make my childhood magical.
