Big Cat Named Marcell Goes Viral, Gets Adopted With His Best Friend
May 9, 2025
The internet has fallen in love with a big-hearted feline named Marcell—and it’s easy to see why.
Weighing in at 23 pounds of pure fluff and affection, this “big boy” captured hearts nationwide when the SPCA Serving Allegany County, NY shared his story on social media.

In a post that quickly went viral, the shelter introduced Marcell with a purrsonality-filled bio:
I’m Marcell, and I’m ready to stride straight into your heart with 23 pounds of pure, unfiltered love.
Once upon a time, I left this very SPCA with my best friend, Aspen, by my side. Together, we found a wonderful home and a human who adored us. But when our person’s health declined and he ultimately passed away, we found ourselves back at the shelter, waiting for a second chance.
While we miss our previous owner dearly, we are firm believers in fresh starts. So here I am, strutting forward with confidence…and a bit of a waddle…toward a brighter future.
A little about me: I am currently on a fitness journey (down 8 percent so far, thank you for asking!). But don’t let my size fool you — I can still hustle when I hear the crinkle of a treat bag. I also love belly rubs, head scratches, and being showered with affection.
Aspen and I once thought we were a package deal, and while we would love to be adopted together again, we’ve come to terms with the idea of going our separate ways if needed. We’ll always be friends, but we’re open to love in new places.
So what do you say? Do you have room in your heart (and on your couch) for a deluxe-sized gentleman like me? If you think we make a purrfect match, please apply for me today!
*Marcell is a little over 7 years old. He loves people, greatly enjoys the company of cats, and can be dog-tested upon request.

And then came the best update of all:
“UPDATE: Adopted & went home with his BFF, Aspen!!!!”
That’s right—Marcell and Aspen are now settling into their new forever home together. Proof that a little personality, a lot of love, and the magic of the internet can create the purrfect ending.
