The da Vinci Surgical System was invented so that a surgeon could operate over long distances. For instance: a soldier suffering wounds overseas could be placed under anasthesia and a doctor could use a console in NY to perform a complicated procedure.

The surgeon also has a "zoomed in" view of the injury and therefore can be more precise.

I must say, watching this tiny grape have its skin sewn back on is very impressive!
