Family Unable To Afford Surgery Was Forced To Give Up Their Dog. Vet Performs $6,000 Surgery For Free, Reunites Family

After finding out their 4-year-old dachshund would need back expensive back surgery to walk again, the couple was forced to give Lola up to an animal rescue group.
But when veterinarian Michael Wong learned that the family couldn’t afford the $6,000 operation, he performed the surgery for free. On Christmas Eve, Lola was reunited with Sumey and David Hageman, who thought they would never see her again.
Wong, of Southeast Veterinary Neurology in Miami, said he often works with the rescue group and knows that once someone decides to give up a dog, they lose rights to visit. But knowing the reason was financial, Wong reached out to the rescue group and asked if he could give the dog back to the Hagemans after the surgery. The rescue group agreed.
