Donna Osborne of Lancaster County said she was at an airport with her daughter to visit family in Florida when their flight got delayed.
"Well, it was delayed so many times, I decided to go home. My daughter stayed and flew to Florida," said Osborne. "If I didn't leave the airport, I would have never bought that ticket!"
She scratched the winning ticket in the Speedway convenience store parking lot.
"I couldn't believe my eyes," Osborne exclaimed. "I went back into the store and asked the clerk to check it, and they confirmed it was a winner!"
Eager to share the good news, Osborne called her daughter, who was still in Florida. Initially, her daughter couldn't believe the astonishing turn of events.
The lottery win was especially significant, arriving right on her birthday and shortly after she completed radiation treatment for breast cancer.
Osborne, who has been providing transportation for the Amish community for decades, expressed no intention of retiring.
"I don't know what I'd do with myself. I have to keep moving," she said. She plans to invest some of her prize money and hopes to fulfill a dream of visiting Alaska.
