The saga unfolded last month when Hero's owner found himself trapped in a muddy ditch for two days in temperatures as cold as –17 C. Despite the perilous circumstances, Hero remained faithfully by his side, providing warmth and protection, even fending off coyotes that threatened their safety.
The rescue efforts began when Taber police responded to reports of a possibly injured dog roaming near the community's sugar factory. After subsequent complaints of a dog bite in the same vicinity, officers located Hero and his owner, who had been enduring the ordeal together.
The 61-year-old resident of Taber was swiftly transported to the hospital for medical attention and recovery.
