Engineers Create A Waterproof, Breathable, Itch-Free Cast

A group of engineers in Chicago have designed a new, waterproof cast that could send plaster casts into extinction.

The startup company, Cast21, invented a breathable, lightweight, waterproof cast that can be fitted in minutes. It also eliminates the itchy sensation caused by plaster casts.
Cast21's design was crafted to prove that breaking a limb doesn't have to be a massive inconvenience any longer.

"We have this radical notion that you can enjoy your healing experience," says Veronica Hogg, the company's VP of engineering. "You don't need to be restrained from daily activities."

The patented design is constructed from a mesh sleeve filled with liquid resin which are molded into the correct position for each patient.
