5 year-old calls 911 and saves her mother's life
August 21, 2012
A 5 year-old girl in Vancouver saved her mother's life by calling 911 during an emergency situation.
The young girl took it upon herself to pick up the phone and call for help when her mother fell in the backyard patio on the hard concrete and was not getting up or responding.
The girl was home with her two younger brothers, ages 3 and 1, when their 31 year-old mother suddenly had a seizure. She was the only one who could save her.
On the phone with dispatchers, the daughter explained that her mother would not wake up, even after she tried to wake her. She informed them there was no blood, but she knew something was wrong. At first she was very frantic on the phone and hard to understand, but the trained dispatcher was able to quickly calm her down.
Emergency vehicles arrived to treat the mother and she is now in good health. When asked by officers how she knew to call 911 in case of an emergency, she told them her grandmother had taught her.
