109 Year-Old Man Knits Little Sweaters To Save The Lives Of Little Penguins

The oldest man in Australia has been spending his free time knitting tiny wool sweaters for tiny penguins in need.

After a massive oil spill that injured hundreds of Little Penguins - a species only found in southern Australia and New Zealand - Phillip Island's Penguin Foundation asked 109 year-old Alfred "Alfie" Date if he could knit little sweaters for them.
The removable sweaters help prevent the injured penguins from trying to remove the sludge themselves and swallowing the toxic oil. This is not a fashion statement.
But settle down knitters, the foundation shared on Facebook:
"Please know we have plenty of jumpers for the penguins and do not need any more. We greatly appreciate everyone's efforts, including gorgeous Alfie."
