A Bag Of Oranges
By leanne • February 11, 2022
Today I was in a space to receive kindness.
I had been to the shopping center to do a few things before I go back to work next week and was packing my groceries into my car when a gentleman came over and offered me a half a bag of oranges, he was so softly spoken I had to lean in to hear him.
He said "I don’t want them to go to waste, and will only eat half a bag, please take the rest and enjoy them."
I didn’t know what to do, I offered him the BBQ chicken I had purchased to make lunch, he declined, I offered him the bananas I had, he giggled and declined saying he just wanted me to have them, turned and walked away.
I was surprised by his offer and accepted with a huge thank you, not for the oranges but for approaching me and not wanting anything in return. It isn’t about the product or motivation, it was literally an unexpected gesture truly expecting nothing in return.
I honestly had tears in my eyes. I know how small the offer is, but I also appreciated this man and those oranges so much, as a reminder that kindness does exist and opportunities are everywhere for us to display this behavior.
Thank you to the man with the half a bag of oranges, you have done more for me then you could ever realize.
