A Hug I Will Never Forget
By Jay Abington • April 9, 2018
At a roadside spring where I got some of the best water I ever drank. I am dirt from head to toe. I had spent the last 3 hours of the morning on dirt roads in OR. I have 2 weeks of living gear and a shot gun strapped to my gold wing and a car pulls up.
A woman and her 10 year old girl jump out and head for the fountain behind me.
I notice that there is a boy about 8 year old in the car and he is just looking at me. I figure he likes bikes or something well before I can wave the little guy gets out of the car and is heading right for me. I glance behind me at the mom and she is watching. I turn back and say well high their young man as he approaches me and without a word he walks up put his arms around my waist and his head on my leg hugging me I was supersized to say the least. I didn't quite know what to do so I reached down and patted him on the back for a second and said 'well what did I do to deserve that?'
Without a word he lets go and walks to his mom and sits down. I turn around to mom for some kind of explanation and she said he misses his dad he used to ride a bike. I said 'you mean.......' and she nodded yes. I will never forget that.
