Two Police Officers Go Above The Call Of Duty And Buy Food For A Family In Need
July 8, 2016
Two Washington State police officers went above and beyond the call of duty for a family in need.
The Pierce County Sheriff's Department wrote on Facebook:
"Our patrol deputies went beyond the call of duty and purchased groceries for a family in desperate need. On June 23, two of our deputies responded to a home in ‪#Spanaway‬ to conduct a welfare check. They found a single mother alone with three children and no food in the house. The mother's boyfriend had wrecked her only vehicle and she had no way to get assistance.
After getting permission from their supervisor, our deputies drove to Walmart and each filled a cart. A shopper who had previously been arrested by one of the deputies asked what they were doing. The deputies explained there was a mother and children in need and they were shopping for them. Before the deputies made it to the checkout, the shopper brought them juice and milk, which he had purchased, and said he wanted to help. The deputies brought the groceries back to the mother who cried in disbelief. They also arranged for ‪#DSHS‬ to contact her, and followed up to make sure she received some assistance.
Please join us in thanking these deputies for going beyond the call of duty, and the citizen for lending a helping hand."
