Watch This Macaw Shush Another Bird For Being Too Noisy
April 13, 2018
A two year-old Harlequin Macaw talks in the mirror and tells a distant Blue and Gold Macaw to "Sssshhhhh!"
One of the most interesting parts about this video is how the bird also puts his toes over his mouth, just like a human places an index finger over the mouth when shushing. The Macaw isn't just copying sound, but has brought gestures into play as well, and understands that the gesture and sound go together. Birds are so smart!
