A Blind And Deaf Father’s Determination To Cheer For His Son
September 30, 2024
Torbjörn Svensson, a dedicated father living with Usher's syndrome, refuses to let his condition keep him from being an active part of his son's life.
Although he is both blind and deaf, Torbjörn finds a way to "watch" his son Hugo’s soccer games with the help of a translator. Using her hands and fingers, the translator skillfully conveys the action on the field, allowing Torbjörn to follow the game and cheer proudly for his son.
For Torbjörn, participation means everything.
He shared (translated): "Participation. This word that for the common man may not be something that comes to mind, but if you are outside, that word means everything. For me, being able to attend Hugo's matches is priceless. Because I enjoy when I'm there and can proudly cheer for my son, and above all - Hugo has his father there and can share this experience. So participation is everything."
