This might sound bizarre, but it's part of a decades-old international operation aimed at eradicating the New World Screwworm. Despite its significance, this operation remains relatively unknown to the public.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) began efforts to combat the New World Screwworm in America to end the millions of livestock deaths it caused. The screwworm, a parasitic insect, lays its eggs in the wounds of warm-blooded animals.
