Shelter Dog Who Loves His Bowl Gets Adopted After His Story Goes Viral
April 25, 2019
A shelter dog was adopted just hours before he was scheduled to be euthanized, thanks to the power of social media.

Memphis Animal Services
Oliver was rescued by Memphis Animal Services after the dog refused to leave a family's backyard in Memphis.
The staff believed he had a home or someone taking care of him at some point because he was very smart and absolutely loved food and treats.
In fact, he loved food so much that he became attached to his bowl.
Oliver's story went viral when it was posted on Facebook by a group named "Wilson, Rosie, and Pickle Pete".
In their post, they pleaded for someone to adopt Oliver and his bowl after learning the dog was scheduled to be euthanized.
"The animal shelter / Memphis Animal Services asked me to update to say that Oliver will be euthanized tomorrow unless they receive an email," the post explained. "Y’all, OLIVER IS ON THE URGENT LIST!! He doesn’t have much time left to find a family WHERE HE WON’T HAVE TO SHARE HIS BOWL. He needs to go home with someone as an only dog, because right now he’s not playing nice at recess."
The post was shared more than 9,000 times and got international attention.
And it worked!

Memphis Animal Services
"Thanks to everyone who posted and shared Oliver," Memphis Animal Services wrote in an update. "People all over the world fell in love with him and his bowl! Two of those people came for him, and today he’s going home. With his bowl, of course!"
