Brus and Little Dude ran off while their owner Carol Hosley was evacuating their apartment due to volcano eruptions.
Aloha Ilio Rescue, the local shelter from which the pups were adopted six months ago, helped Hosley search for the dogs.
"We've been looking for him for 10 days, and we've just kept going back, and going back," said Daylynn Kyles, president of Aloha Ilio Dog Rescue.
Kyles, accompanied by two friends, finally found the dogs on Sunday.
"They were stuck behind a fence, and they couldn't get out because the lava had surrounded them," Kyles told Hawaii News Now. "It was crazy."
Kyles and her friends crawled through grass to the fence line to get to the dogs, who were both covered in red ant bites.
Hosley said she was "thrilled to death" her beloved pups were rescued.
"I just couldn't be happier," Hosley said. "The other stuff is stuff, but I got the dogs."
Brus and Little Dude are currently staying with Aloha Ilio Rescue while Hosley looks for a place to stay amid the ongoing volcanic activity.
