December 13, 2017

Jeff Hammerbacher and his wife Halle Tecco have donated their entire bitcoin ETF to the MUSC Hollings Cancer Center in South Carolina.
The couple invested in the cryptocurrency in 2012 which was selling for around $800 at the time. Bitcoin soared to more than $17,000 last week after being worth less than $1,000 at the start of the year.

Tecco declined to tell CNBC exactly how much the investment was worth, but the value is in the hundreds of thousands of dollars at today's price.
