Homeless man receives over $165,000 for returning lost engagement ring
February 27, 2013
A homeless man has received over $165,000 and counting after returning a woman's missing engagement ring.
Sarah Darling accidentally gave her diamond ring along with the coins she meant to give from her purse. She forgot that she took her ring off and temporarily stored it in her purse.
Darling did not realize the ring was missing until the next day. She traced her steps and ended up back at the homeless man's location, who was standing there waiting for her -- ring in hand.
His name is Billy Ray Harris, and he has inspired the world with his kindness and honesty.
To show their appreciation, Darling and her husband set up a 90 day fundraiser for Harris. The goal was set at $1000. After only a week, the total was over $4,000. Now, the total is well over $100,000 with plenty of time to go.
When asked what Harris plans to do with all the money, Darling responded by posting the following.
We talked about what he's planning to do with the donations. The details would be better left for later but know that he has a very solid plan and a very solid way of making it happen. He had a short and sweet message to give to all of you that I tried to remember, but it escapes me.
This goes to prove that your life can change at any moment. This one act of honesty is going to change Bill Ray Harris' life forever.
