A Cop Approached This Truck With His Hand On His Gun. What Happened Next Will Shock You
May 28, 2015
Iowa State Trooper Tracy Bohlen expected the worst when a stalled-out truck on the interstate suddenly took off as he pulled up behind it. When the truck made a second abrupt stop, Bohlen saw this as an opportunity to approach, keeping one hand on his gun.
When he opened the door he saw a frantic teenage boy.
"He's having a heart attack!" the boy said.
The quick-thinking officer pulled his father, Patrick, out of the truck and began performing CPR.
"I put him onto the middle of the interstate... it wasn't on the shoulder, it was the middle of the interstate," Bohlen said, and can clearly be seen in the above video.
After nearly one minute of chest compressions, Bohlen finally felt a pulse.
Several people stopped to help, including a nurse, Jane McCurdy. She can be seen in the above video escorting Patrick's traumatized son to her car.
"I said I never went into nursing to make a million, I just meant to make a difference and I was just blessed to be able to do that."
McCurdy drove the boy to the hospital, waited there all day for the rest of the family to arrive from Oklahoma, ran to the pharmacy for them, and even helped them get settled in a downtown hotel.
In addition to the nurse and trooper, another stranger drove the truck to the hospital.
Patrick is still waiting for test results but is alive and well.
Officer Bohlen added, "For someone just to take their whole day for a stranger, I mean that's just who we are. That's Iowa."
