Payless Put Their Shoes In A Fake Designer Store And People Paid Hundreds For Them
November 29, 2018
Payless opened a fake luxury store in Los Angeles to see how much people would pay for their discount shoes.
In this brilliant marketing campaign, the discount shoe company asks viewers "Why pay $200+ when you can pay $19.99?"
Grand opening attendees, having no idea they were looking at discount staples from the mall scene, were filmed saying they’d pay hundreds of dollars for the stylish shoes, praising the look, materials and workmanship.
Some paid $200, $400, and even $600 for shoes that are normally sold for $19.99 to $39.99.
Payless returned the cash spent by the victims of its prank and let them keep the shoes for free. Hidden cameras caught the reactions of said victims which are being broadcasted in a series of ads by the company.
"The campaign aims to remind consumers we are still a relevant place to shop for affordable fashion," Payless' head of marketing, Sara Couch, said.
