Soaked, Scared, And Alone - Baby Raccoon Melts Hearts After Rescue
June 13, 2025
A baby raccoon found alone on a doorstep in Massachusetts is capturing hearts around the world after a rain-soaked rescue that’s gone viral.
The tiny raccoon was discovered by a resident in Belchertown, curled up on their front step during a rainstorm. At first, they waited, hoping the mother would return—but when it became clear she wouldn’t, they called animal control for help.

When Belchertown Animal Control arrived, they found the little creature cold, wet, and visibly frightened.
"The little baby was cold and wet from the rainstorm we had," the officer on the scene told PEOPLE. "As soon as I saw him, my heart broke. He was drenched and looked so scared, curled up at the front door. He was too young to be on his own."
The raccoon was carefully picked up and taken to the Leyden Center for Wildlife Rehabilitation, where it will receive care until it’s old enough to be released back into the wild.
