9 year-old girl inspires nation to donate stuffed animals to Hurricane Sandy victims
November 12, 2012
9 year-old Elizabeth Kandris of Northern Virginia has been watching the recent news footage of Hurricane Sandy and the devastation it caused to those living on the East Coast. She particularly felt sorry for the younger victims who lost everything.
Elizabeth took action and asked her mother if she could donate her stuffed animals to children affected by the storm in hopes to make them feel better during tough times. That small gesture quickly turned into an actual stuffed animal drive.
"A stuffed animal can make you feel better when you’re scared," Elizabeth told CBS News. "It makes you feel better if you have something to cuddle with."
Many small businesses in Northern Virginia are hosting the stuffed animal drives with designated drop off zones.
This is not even the best part of the story.
The idea is taking over the nation. People everywhere are getting involved and donating their stuffed animals.
A 4 year old-girl from Kansas City cried when she found out children lost their stuffed animals forever. It inspired her parents to start Project Daisy.
It's a wonderful feeling to know that children at such a young age are thinking of others and even taking action to help them.
