He's Dying Of ALS, So His Vocal Coach Sings His Own Song To Him And Makes His Dream Come True
May 13, 2019
Bernie came to singer Essence in January of 2016 for vocal lessons. He was 46 years old, a single dad and cleaned swimming pools for a living. He had always played music and had a dream of making an album but never did anything about it.
But one day Bernie lost his voice. He continued the lessons for months but his voice never returned.
He would later find out that he had ALS.
Since he could no longer sing or speak, he asked Essence to be his voice for his song, "Unusual Boy."
Essence sang the song to him with a full band while Bernie watched in tears from his hospital bed.
Bernie passed away last week.
