A mother hen getting soaked in order to keep her babies warm pretty much sums up motherhood.
In an interesting conundrum, the mother hen will stand in the rain sheltering her chicks even when shelter is a few feet away. Sheltering them is critical because the chicks can easily die if they get chilled by cool rain.
