Before It Became 'Thriller' It Was Called 'Starlight' And The Lyrics Were Completely Different
February 23, 2016
This is Michael Jackson's "Starlight," the original version of "Thriller" before the lyrics were completely changed.
According to an interview by WNYC, when Quincy Jones decided to change the entire concept of the album and the song, he told his sound engineers, including Bruce Swedien, to think of Edgar Allen Poe. After that, "Starlight" quietly imploded and "Thriller" emerged.
Would the song still have been so legendary? It's hard to imagine.
