Although listed in the Guinness Book of Animal Records as the world's most venomous fish, the stonefish is responsible for remarkably very few recorded human deaths. With timely medical care, envenomation by a stonefish can be treated.
There are roughly 800 to 1,000 stings reported every year in Australia. Now that they have been introduced to Florida and the Caribbean, they are considered the most dangerous fish in that region as well.
