Icelandic People Are Throwing Baby Puffins Off Cliffs
September 23, 2022
Here's a fun tradition in Iceland when the community comes together to save baby birds.
Every year, from mid-August through September, the Icelandic people of the western islands help confused puffin chicks (called pufflins) as they jump out or their burrows at night.
According to Hey Iceland, "It is a tradition that the children of the island will go out in the evening during this time period to collect any lost baby puffins whose parents have left them on their own. The baby puffins are then returned to a better location so they can begin their own journey out to sea."
