The workers had been stuck inside the La Reliquia mine in Antioquia for 43 hours after the main entrance collapsed on Monday due to a geomechanical failure, according to Colombia’s National Mining Agency.
A video released by the agency captured the powerful moment the first miners emerged, climbing a rope up the steep shaft on their own strength. Family members who had anxiously waited for hours erupted in celebration as each miner made it to safety.
