Quick-Thinking Bus Driver Rescues Students Just In Time During Bus Fire

Today's good news story comes from Cleveland Heights, Ohio.
A potentially dangerous situation turned into a testament to preparedness and quick action in Cleveland Heights when a school bus caught fire on the way to Monticello Middle School. Thanks to the swift response of the bus driver, all 15 students on board were safely evacuated without injury.

The incident occurred at the intersection of Cambridge and Northampton roads when a fire ignited behind one of the rear wheels of Bus 21. The driver immediately recognized the danger and guided the students off the bus, ensuring their safety. Another district driver in the area quickly stepped in to transport the students to school.
Superintendent Liz Kirby expressed her relief that no one was hurt and commended both the driver and the students for their calm and orderly response.
"First and foremost, I can’t express how relieved I am that no one was hurt, and I am incredibly grateful for the quick response from the driver," she said. "I spoke with the driver today, and they credited the annual bus evacuation drills that drivers do with students with preparing them."
While the driver has chosen to remain anonymous, their actions were widely praised.
