'Toys For Tickets' Allows Motorists To Pay Parking Tickets With Christmas Presents

December 1, 2022

Cities in Canada are allowing citizens to pay their parking fines with toys to help make sure children have a gift to open on Christmas morning.

The "Toys for Tickets" campaign allows motorists to donate toys, in lieu of money, to pay for any parking ticket this holiday season.

"We urge everyone with an eligible ticket to take this opportunity to donate a toy," Kingston's Supervisor of Enforcement Services Dan Hazell said. "Your donation will directly benefit a child in our community."

"We paused the Toys for Tickets campaign during COVID-19 but, given its past success and positive reception, we are happy to launch it once again this holiday season," said Nick Ternovatsky, director of parking for Alberta Heath Services.

The only requirement is the toy must be equal to or greater than the value of the parking ticket. Drivers are required to show a receipt when donating the toy.

The toys are delivered to a local toy drive in time to be distributed to children over the holidays.

The Toys for Tickets campaign was launched in 2005 and has received tremendous support from participating communities each year.
