Dog Is Rescued After She's Found Swimming 135 Miles Out At Sea
April 16, 2019
An offshore drilling team has rescued a dog they found paddling 135 miles away from shore in the middle of the Gulf of Thailand.
Workers on the oil rig noticed the dog's head poking out above the ripples as she paddled through the ocean last Friday.
They called out to the exhausted animal and she swam towards them, taking refuge among the rusty metal poles of the rig.
"If the waves had been strong, we wouldn't have seen her," Vitisak Payalaw, of Chevron Thailand Exploration and Production’s oil drilling team, wrote on Facebook.
She stayed on the rig for two nights while staff gave her plenty of food and water.
The workers believe she must have fallen into the sea from a fishing trawler.
"When we first took her onboard her she was depressed and tired from being in the water for a long time. She had lost her body water," Vitisak wrote.
"When he gave her water and minerals her symptoms improved. She started sitting up and walking normally."
The dog was transfered by a crane to another oil vessel that was passing through the area and returning to shore. She was taken to vets in Songkhla, southern Thailand.
Vitisak told the local press that he would like to adopt her if no owner comes forward.
"I hope to adopt her as a pet," Vitisak said. "I am looking forward to spending many happy years together with her."
