Matthew Charles, who was sentenced to 35 years on a nonviolent drug charge, was freed after 20 years, making him the first person to be released under the First Step Act — a criminal justice reform law signed by President Donald Trump in December.
Since his release, Charles has been staying with a friend in Nashville and found full-time employment with Families Against Mandatory Minimums. But when he went to apply to rent a home last week, he was denied on the basis of his criminal history and his lack of credit after being incarcerated for two decades.
On Sunday, Charles revealed that Kim Kardashian had stepped in once again to help him.
Charles said Kardashian's team reached out to him Sunday after seeing a story published Friday on his struggles to find housing.
The housing details are still being worked out, USA Today reports.
