A real life Notebook story
March 2, 2013
This is almost the exact story line of the box office sensation, 'The Notebook'. 91 year-old Jack Potter reads a diary to his wife of 70 years to help her memory come back after suffering from dementia. He visits her at the nursing home every single day.
In the hit movie, the same events occur. A man reads a love story to his wife who suffers from severe memory loss. After enough reading, she realizes that the story is about her and suddenly it all comes back to her, but only for a few moments.
In this true life story, Jack and Phyliss Potter met back in 1941, when Phyliss asked Jack to dance. The couple married months later and Jack has kept a diary of their lives toegether ever since.
"I remember it like it was yesterday the first time I met her - she came up to me and asked me to dance."
According to Mr. Potter, Phyliss really enjoys hearing the stories and seeing pictures.
Last week the couple celebrated their 70th anniversary.
