Free-Ninety-Nine

By kr • April 7, 2026

A 3-year-old’s first bike ride didn’t go the way he imagined… but what happened next is the part his dad says he’ll always remember.

After a long walk to the park, Andy’s son was excited to finally take his brand new bike for a spin.

He hopped on, pushed down on the pedals… and nothing happened.

No matter how hard he tried, the bike wouldn’t move. The excitement quickly faded into disappointment when they realized the chain was too tight.

That’s when they noticed Mitchell Auto Repair sitting just across the field.

Inside, Tony Mitchell welcomed the little boy like he was a regular customer.

He asked what the bike was “doing,” listened carefully as the boy explained the sounds, and then got to work—fixing the problem with care and kindness that meant everything in that moment.

When he finished, Tony smiled and said the total was “free-ninety-nine.”

The only payment required? A fist bump.

With the bike fixed, they headed back to the park to try again.

But later that night, when his mom got home, Andy shared something unexpected—the best part of the day wasn’t riding the bike at all.

It was the visit to the shop.

A small act of kindness that turned a tough moment into a memory this little boy won’t forget anytime soon.
