San Antonio Woman Finds Mystery Animal In Her Backyard

September 28, 2023

The vibrant city of San Antonio is no stranger to its fair share of wildlife, but one resident's recent discovery has left the local community abuzz with fascination and curiosity.

Tina Kahlig peered out of her kitchen window and was met with the sight of an unfamiliar creature in her Hill Country Village backyard.

While accustomed to observing coyotes, foxes, and raccoons in her yard, Kahlig couldn't help but be surprised by the unique appearance of the brown animal, which appeared to be a blend of a hyena and a mountain lion.

Standing roughly 100 feet away, Kahlig snapped photographs and sought opinions from her neighbors on Nextdoor to identify the mysterious creature.

The comments mentioned a range of possibilities, including a coyote, a mountain lion, a "weird looking dog", and even the mythical "chupacabra", a fanged creature from folklore known for purportedly drinking the blood of animals.

"Whatever it is, it's so big. I've never seen a coyote that big before," Kahlig said. "It's something I've never seen before and it spooked me for just a second. We'll see if it comes back."
