Acclaimed Pianist, 80, Plays Piano With Both Hands For The First Time In 20 Years Thanks To Bionic Gloves
October 1, 2020
João Carlos Martins is a classical pianist and celebrated interpreter of Johann Sebastian Bach's music.
But after a number of health issues, injuries and operations, the 80-year-old pianist found himself unable to fully play the instrument he had studied since he was eight years old.
His limitations had forced him to work mostly as a conductor since the early 2000s.
But thanks to a pair of neoprene-covered bionic gloves, Martins is finally able to perform again.
In a recent video posted to Instagram by Martins, he can be seen fighting back the tears as he plays piano with both hands for the first time in 20 years.
