Ancient Snapping Turtle Says Hi
January 28, 2019
A student at Texas State University who works with a conservation crew in the San Marcos River captured this video of a very old turtle.
"I scuba dive for a living, and for my passion. My dream job is to be a wildlife photographer for National Geographic. I filmed this during work at Purgatory Creek (off of San Marcos River).
He is an elderly Common Snapping Turtle.
You can tell he is aged by all of the algae on his shell (not harmful to his health), and the cataracts in his eyes. He is super friendly, and curious, which is an odd trait for a snapping turtle to have, they are usually very shy and skittish.
I did not touch, harass or feed this turtle for this video. He came to me on his own free will."
