Gill died from cancer at his Sydney home on Sunday morning, less than a week before his 77th birthday.
Dozens of musicians gathered outside his home to play his favorite song, "The Dam Busters March".
"I expected maybe 15, 20 people to turn up and we had over 70 there, and even the police band turned up as well," Gill's longtime colleague and friend, Paul Goodchild, told The Sydney Morning Herald.
