MLB Player Holds Back Tears During Standing Ovation From Fans After His Mom Passed Away
May 11, 2018
Stephen Piscotty of the Oakland Athletics held back tears as he received a standing ovation from A's fans during his first at bat since his mother passed away at age 55 from Lou Gehrig's disease.
Steve grew up about 25 miles from the Athletic's ballpark. Last year he was playing for the St. Louis Cardinals and was having one of his worst years, statistically. After the season was over, and with the criticism mounting, Steve and the team released a statement saying his mom was battling ALS. During the off-season the Cardinals and the A's front office worked out a deal to have Steve play with the A's so he can be close and help take care of his mother.
