9-Year-Old Amputee Who Escaped The California Wildfires Explains Why She Refused To Live Life In A Wheelchair

October 21, 2017

Lilly Biagini was born with a disorder called arthrogryposis multiplex congenita. She had no joints in her lower extremities, so doctors told her she had two choices: live the rest of her life in a wheelchair or have surgery to remove her legs.

For Lilly, the decision was simple.

"Yeah, you're kidding," she remembers telling them. "I'm not going to listen to you. I'm going to tell you right now. I'm going to have surgery like in one month."

At just six years old, Lilly had both of her legs removed. Since then, Lilly has learned to swim and horseback ride, too.

Unfortunately, Lilly lost her prosthetics and wheelchair in the recent California wildfires, as well as the rest of her family's belongings.

Lilly and her mother were invited onto The Ellen DeGeneres Show and Ellen surprised Lilly and Jessica with a brand-new car, filled with toys for Lilly's upcoming birthday.
