At Waunakee High School in Wisconsin, many classmates knew 18-year-old Molly Schafer as quiet and reserved. Social anxiety had kept her from connecting like she once did in elementary and middle school.

Day after day, she climbed to a loft in her garage and poured herself into painting portraits of her classmates—44 in total.
Each one took about 13 hours, adding up to more than 600 hours of work.
When she finally presented the portraits as gifts, she gave her peers more than artwork. She gave them a reminder of connection, belonging, and the quiet power of kindness.
