Scotland's Enchanting Spectacle: Rare 'Rainbow Clouds' Paint The Sky

January 3, 2024

In a breathtaking display of nature's wonders, Scotland recently played host to a rare and captivating celestial phenomenon – "rainbow clouds" gracefully painting the sky in hues that seemed borrowed from dreams.

Photographer Joshua Earle shared a video of the beautiful scene, adding "I still can’t wrap my head around what I’m seeing! Nature is simply amazing."

He continued: "Also known as Nacreous, Mother of Pearl or Polar Stratospheric Clouds, this strange phenomenon is caused by high arctic clouds that contain tiny ice crystals that refract the sunlight."
