Woman With Down Syndrome Learns She's Going To Be The Maid Of Honor
April 6, 2021
Chris Garafola and his fiancée, Tatiana, chose Chris' sister, Brittany, who has Down syndrome, to be the maid of honor in their wedding.
"This is Brittany's reaction after hearing we're getting married and that Tatiana wants to make her the Maid of Honor. We also bought her a beautiful ring that we'll surprise her with when we see her—we truly want her to feel like she is apart of the ceremony," Chris said.
He continued, "When you have a sibling with Down Syndrome, you don't take marriage lightly. You're significant other needs to understand that although you are marrying them, you're a package deal. From day one, I made it clear to Tatiana that Brittany and I were a package deal and that I had TWO best friends.
This can be a profound thing for a significant other to understand and accept—not everyone can do it. It takes a special someone. Luckily for me, I found this person. It didn't take any convincing, Tatiana loves my sister with every fiber of her being and wouldn't have it any other way.
Brittany is going to have a new sister in 6 days!!"
