This Guy Digs Through Trash To Create Something We Often Take For Granted

May 5, 2014

California-based artist Gregory Kloehn gave up creating expensive sculptures for the rich to build shelters for the homeless... made completely out of garbage.

Gregory digs through illegally dumped trash and even goes dumpster diving to find his materials.

He then puts them into use, building tiny shelters for people in need.

His homes have wheels, so they can easily be moved.

And he still gets to be creative...

To date, Kloehn has built 10 such homes.

He even spends some time during the year living in a steel dumpster. Kloehn spent about $4,000 to turn the dumpster into a compact, moveable residence in New York City.

But it's got most of the comforts of home, including a kitchen.

His idea to build homes for the needy came when a homeless man visited his art studio asking for a tarp.

All Gregory had was a tiny wooden frame he was working on, equipped with a built-in kitchen, water tank and a small trap for human waste.

He realized right then and there… this was a home he could use.
